I live in Jackson and have been to our local shooting range on multiple occasions. The two hour lesson I had with Shepard of JH Shooting Experience, however, was far and away the most fun I have ever had there. Shepard was safety-conscious, supportive, instructive, professional and good-humored. He gave me a lot of valuable tips to improve my shooting and my comfort level with my rifle. My lesson far exceeded my expectations! I wish I had done this years ago and will most definitely treat myself to another lesson with Shepard. You should treat yourself, too!

We had an amazing time. The “we” is me, my wife, and two sons. The instruction is great. Incredibly well thought out to build confidence and ability. Everything was positive and frankly the color commentary was so funny it was made everyone at ease. The hardware we got to use was a once in a lifetime array of historically significant firearms to the latest and greatest o today. I cannot rate this high enough. We have had an awesome time in the Jackson area but this is the cherry on the sundae.

Had a great time shooting with Colt. He was a had a great fund of knowledge and very humble about his accomplishments. My wife who had never picked up a gun shot a target from 600 yards away. I was literally “blown away”. Will return again when we are in the area.

Never fired a weapon before, coming from the New York area, so it was with a mix of trepidation and adventure that I signed up for a shooting experience. Rest assured, you will be in good hands. Shephard is the ideal instructor for the first timer. You are given clear instructions with safety always in mind and a dose of good humor that sets you at ease. With that in mind: expect to feel unmitigated joy as you slam the next clip in, squeeze the trigger, and hear the “ping” against the target.

My wife and I happened to stumble upon this at the adventure center. I’ve shot a couple of guns before in my life but what drew me to do this was the larger caliber guns that are hard to come by up here in Canada. I was a bit leery over the initial price but I’m so glad I did it. Its well worth the money.
I had an awesome time doing this, ended up having the instructor all to myself and the knowledge mixed with fun was a great balance. Shepherd would drop knowledge on at the right times to keep you engaged and having fun. Everything was interesting. I really enjoyed the different situations that he would provide you like timed shooting (which I pulled off a nice 1.9s woot!), challenging you to try new things like double and triple tapping targets as well as trying to distract you at times while you are shooting to teach you that things aren’t always calm when you need to make a shot. ha.
Now, the absolute highlight for me was the 50 Caliber Bushmaster sniper rifle. I’m so glad that I happened to ask:

“OH. Um…. Can I shoot it?”
“yes”
SWEET! $25/shot is cool. I only did one, but so glad I did, the highlight of the whole thing for me.
I kept a number of the bullet casings and am planning on framing them with a number of the pictures my wife took while I did this. This was a great experience I’ll always remember (and really made me want to start to collect my own guns even more).
The only thing that I wish it had was a few more rounds of the higher caliber guns. You only had 1 – 3 bullets of each of the higher caliber guns. I’m sure this is to help with cost, but it would have been really great to at least be able to pick one of the higher caliber guns to shoot a few more bullets from.
Regardless of that I highly recommend this, it’s a lot of fun and Shepherd is a great guy. Having him get excited with you when you hit a target at range (like the 300 yard target using the 22 with red dot scope, which we said was really stretching it. ha.). Anyways, seeing him get excited about a shot alongside you really added to the enjoyment of it all.

I had only shot a gun once before in my life, and I was NOT looking forward to my experience at JH Shooting. It was all my wife’s idea.
However, it was one of the most fun and rewarding things I’ve done in a long, long time. Shepard is a kind man and an excellent instructor. I can not suggest highly enough that you try this out. You will love it.

My son and I signed up for one of Shepard’s designer instruction packages. I shoot rifles regularly in the UK so we asked for a course just on handguns. It was a superb experience a large range of guns and really expert tuition. There is a clear and absolute commitment to safety from very experenced instructors (Shepard himself is ex Police). We were traveling as a family of five …the three girls went to ride horses …we went to learn how to shoot, by far the best day of the holiday.
If you are within 500 miles of Jackson Hole just change your itinerary and book a course.

Well what can I say except a totally great experience, kind professional instructors and a range of fire power that takes your breath and all in a superb location. We did this as a family of 5 from the UK and was quite the highlight of our trip – and we were in in The US for a month on a roadtrip. Huge fun, compliments especially to Shep, we had never held a gun before this and left feeling like ‘old hands’. A totally safe experience that we would love to repeat. Thanks guys.

We had a tremendous time and recommend anyone visiting Jackson will have an awesome experience. My daughter never who shot a gun before was able to hit a target 400 yards away and had so much fun that she can’t wait to return. Andy, Our instructor was very knowledgeable and assisted greatly with advice and technical assistance. Put this on your list!

We had an amazing time shooting guns at the jackson shooting experience. We were able to shoot a wide range of guns varying from rifles to handguns. This was by far my favourite part of our trip to the US. This was definitely worth every cent! We couldn’t have asked for a more patient, friendly and helpful instructor (shepard). Its a day everyone will enjoy, you could be completely new to shooting or an experienced shooter and you will still have an amazing time! Couldnt recommend it enough. 10/10

Lynn was so helpful in setting up our own personalized shooting experience for 3 generations of our family. Colt was our instructor and was very personable. It was at a wonderfully rustic shooting range that was very easy to get to. We found that it can be as comical or as competitive as you want it to be. It is so nice that we could create our own experience. It was truly a highlight of our trip to Jackson Hole and a great way to celebrate Grand Dad’s birthday.

The Jackson Hole Shooting Experience is a “must do” for anyone traveling to Jackson Hole who wants to experience the Old West in a thoroughly New and sophisticated way. My wife, 9-year old son and I enjoyed our multi-gun experience so much the first time, we cancelled a second day of trout fishing for another day of shooting. Our instructor, Bob Gathercole, was excellent and is a natural teacher who can make learning something new as fun as it gets. He did an awesome job with our son, encouraging his interest and enthusiasm while gently guiding him on gun safety. It’s rare to meet someone like Bob, a skilled and competitive marksman, who can instruct novices like us. Add Shepherd, the owner, and Lynn Sherwood who helped schedule our visits at the last minute, to the mix and you have an unbeatable experience. What a great time! We’re already planning our visit next summer.

My family and I had a great time with Shep and Lynn. We chose the 4-hour shooting experience. When I first signed us up, I was only going to have my husband and son (13) do this but I am so glad my daughter (10) and I also participated. We loved it and had a blast. Shep made my nerves go away as he was very focused on safety and he was extremely patient with my daughter – wanting her to get as much out of the experience as any of us.
I didn’t quite understand why we needed all 4 hours but they flew by and it reallly allowed us to try all different types of guns.
We all highly recommend this!

My 13 yr- old son and I had so much fun doing the one hour shooting experience that we immediately signed up for the longer multi-gun experience. We chose this over a day at Yellowstone! John was our instructor for the 1 hr and Colt was our instructor for the longer session. Both instructors were great and emphasized gun safety. Colt was informative, helpful, patient, and fun! All the staff are super friendly and made us feel welcome. My son said it’s the most fun he’s ever had. And, as a female I’ll admit that I didn’t think I would like shooting, but I was wrong. I have a new respect for this sport and I love it! We Highly recommend Jackson Hole Shooting Experience for a memorable family activity.

Just back from a two week trek throughout Wyoming, Yellowstone, Jackson and other places – fabulous trip! But the number one favorite of myself, 12 year old son and 13 year old daughter was the Jackson Hole Shooting Experience. Colt was great in teaching all about the proper gun safety and etiquette before we started the shooting. Everything from small caliber to high caliber, rifles to revolvers to semi-automatic pistols. My daughter can’t stop talking about how she hit a target from 500 yds with the sniper rifle! Anyway, not inexpensive, but worth every penny. BTW, we just got back from the local gun store where we picked out a nice 9mm pistol to practice at the local range.

Highly recommended. We did the multi-gun experience at the insistence of our 12-year-old video-game-playing son, but our nine-year-old daughter and the two of us ended up loving it too!
Most importantly, the experience was — and felt — super-safe, making this an ideal way to learn about and experience shooting for those who, like the four of us, never come across real guns in day-to-day life and are otherwise normally wary of them.
Our instructor, Shepard (the owner of the company) was incredibly patient with us newbies, very accommodating with our two children, deeply knowledgeable about the subject, and simply wonderful at teaching the four of us about different types of guns, their power and idiosyncrasies, and how to use them safely. Thank you Shepard!
Unexpectedly, we came away from this experience with newfound appreciation for shooting as a sport: we now understand firsthand why some people enjoy it so much.

This was one of the highlights of our family reunion in Jackson Hole. You will not meet nicer people than the JHSE team who smoothly managed our group of 13 through archery, hatchet throwing, rifle and pistol shooting. Despite almost none of us having any shooting experience, the staff quickly and safely coached us to success and great fun. Without exception, everyone in our families had a great time.

We did the multi gun experience, shooting lots of rifles and pistols. Some were old, historical guns. Shepherd provides a fun, warm, and extremely safe experience. His coaching is accurate and helpful. My husband and I agree that this is the highlight of our Wyoming trip. Shepherd is a true pro who really knows his stuff. Add the beautiful environment, and it’s a perfect adventure.

This is an expensive excursion, but well worth the expense. My husband and 2 teenage boys loved the skeet shooting with Colt and Lynn as our hosts / guides. We learned a lot and had fun along the way, competing as we shot. The facility is just outside of town, easy to get too, and very safe. I highly recommend this event to everyone.

Great time with a big selection of Guns. Expensive, but if you plan on coming here on vacation and are ready to spend money it is definitely worth it. It’s done very professional with extreme safety. The employees and instructors are very knowledgeable and helpful. I would absolutely recommend it to anyone, even if you have no interest in guns or shooting you might be pleasantly surprised.

Just came from a four hour , multi-gun experience and have to say that it was an incredible experience. Shephard was truly great! He explained all the safety rules easily and quickly and we were quickly shooting! Each new gun was introduced efficiently and Shephard often inspired our family rivalry during the ‘speed’ rounds. He was very personable, easy going yet the consummate professional. We sampled everything from a pistol to an AK 47…. Where else can you do that? Do yourself and family a favor and do not miss out on an opportunity of a lifetime!

Within in the first five minutes of arriving at the gun range, we knew we were in for a great experience. As we pulled into the parking lot, Shepard was already walking out to greet us. The range faces a large, steep grassy hill that goes up hundreds of yards. It was a gorgeous morning, and we couldn’t believe we would be shooting targets in such a scenic setting! He took us to our shooting area, where he had a great setup — rifles, revolvers, semi-automatics, and some reeeally big guns. He also provided us with snacks, water, and safety gear.
Shepard is a fun, patient, and knowledgeable instructor who stresses safety. Being totally unfamiliar with guns, I wasn’t sure if I would enjoy four hours of shooting. Boy, was I wrong. Shepard took the time to teach us the proper technique for grip, aiming, and trigger pull. He had already set up a variety of targets across the range at different distances. We started out slow, shooting large targets, then increasing the distance, then going for precision, then for speed. It was a ton of fun as we competed on different guns for best time or number of hits.
At the end of the morning, my guy decided to pay extra and shoot the Barrett .50 caliber rifle. You can’t use that thing on a regular target, so he had to shoot at the boulders at the top of the hill. The pressure and sound from the gun was incredible, and it was awesome to see the spray of the rocks. Great way to end the morning!
Again, Shepard is a great instructor with a great personality. We would highly recommend this experience to anyone visiting Jackson Hole. This was our favorite activity of the trip, and we would definitely do it again!

Absolutely amazing experience! I went with my husband and 2 friends and we all voted this our favorite thing in Jackson Hole. Our instructor, Sheppard, was extremely knowledgeable and made all of us feel safe and comfortable around the guns. He had a wide variety of guns and targets and gave us a very memorable experience!

Our instructor, Colt, did a great job explaining the different guns we used. My 13 yr old son, Harry, had the time of his life. I was impressed, that from the very start it was “safety first” and as a result we felt comfortable during the whole experience. Bottom line: we’d do it again and recommend it to anyone visiting the Jackson Hole area.

Class act! Very well ran outfit from beginning to end! Instructors had an incredible amount of knowledge and patience and were extremely safe! We had our family of 6 with ages ranging from 7 to 49 and hands down all voted our favorite activity in Jackson! We would highly recommend spending some time with JH Sooting Experience!!!

Went with a group of four friends as part of a bachelor party on a whim. Shepard was FANTASTIC. Very laid back and kept things light. Took time to teach all of us proper technique and was receptive/open to letting us try whatever we wanted. I think he was actually more excited than us! I would definitely recommend this to anyone – even if you don’t think you’re interested, you will be. Shepard guarantees it 🙂

I had never held a gun before and my husband hadn’t been shooting since college. When we arrived at Jackson Hole Gun Club we really didn’t know what to expect. Shepard, our instructor, was absolutely fabulous. Not only was he totally professional and knowledgeable, but his great personality made the experience that much more fun. We got the opportunity to learn about and use a huge variety of rifles, revolvers and pistols – truly an experience not to be missed!

I just spent both days of the this past weekend in classes taught by Shepard and Lynn. Being new to shooting a pistol, I learned sooooo much. My confidence has greatly increased and well as my knowledge of pistol use for both protection and target shooting.
Shepard and Lynn are the best instructors one could ask for. Their knowledge and their warm friendliness make the classes informative and non stressful. I had the opportunity to try several different guns, which I found exciting.
I would recommend scheduling anything with Shepard and Lynn. They could make almost anything fun while learning at the same time. Great job you two!!!
And Lynn, I am still drawing on and shooting my toilet paper! Thank you.

I took the NRA Basic Pistol course from Shepard & Lynn and can honestly say it was one of the best instructional experiences I have ever had, as well as being great fun! Bring Mom, Dad, the kids & grandma (leave the dog at home). And it’s not just for the first-time shooter like me – intermediate shooters can get a lot out of this experience, too!

Our family of 5 with kids age 19, 17, and 11 did the multigun shooting experience with Shepard and Colt. It was most definitely worth the 4 hours and the money. Shepard worked with me and the girls while Colt worked with my husband and son. It was great training, safety first, and a total blast, especially the big guns. Shepard had my two girls loving the target competition with the 22 caliber scoped rifles. The best was last shooting the big pistols! A must and the nicest guys we’ve met in a long time! I had been in Jackson for a total of one day, and a friend had a surprise for me. She would not tell me anything about it other than to wear comfortable shoes. So, we she takes me a little bit outside of the town and drives me up a private little driveway where Lynn met me with a warm smile to welcome me to the Jackson Hole Shooting Experience. I was not happy. I did not like guns. I had never touched a gun. I had no interest in shooting a bullet. Not one.
But I decided to stay and watch as everyone was so nice, and I thought I wouild just hang out for awhile.
After a quick but very thorough safety course, we all went out so they could demonstate and then we (they) could start firing away. After watching it all, I decided to give it a try…
Uhhhhh, let’s just say that I was not willing to give up my gun. I didn’t want to leave. I had the opportunity to shoot many different guns. Big guns. Little guns. My favorite was the .22 rifle. I actually sort of kicked [–] on that one, hitting nearly every target. The shotgun has some kick, so make sure that you place it correctly on your shoulder, and take the advice from your instructor as sometimes I don’t listen as well as I should. They have dress up clothes if that is your thing, they have archery. Thye have something for everyone in every level.
Shepard, Lynn and their team are fabulous! They are patient and informative, they will go out of their way to make it very special and customize it for you and your family- or friends!
Or be selfish and go by yourself so you have more shooting time, but its fun to watch others, my archery instructor had to move my target up about 20 feet so I could hit it, my arrows still just bounced off. My friend’s arrow went backward a couple of times. My stomach muscles ached for days after laughing so hard.
Don’t miss this activity. It is one of a kind.

Even though Trystan struggled towards the end of class time (I forgot to mention he has ADD and struggles sitting still for long periods of time)he found it really valuable, as did I. He loved the afternoon of shooting and learning how to clean his gun. Thanks for a memorable day, I think you;ve created monsters of us, we can’t wait to come shoot @ the range!

Shepard is a great instructor with a wealth of firearm knowledge. I am an avid shooter, but he provided me and my father the opportunity to shoot firearms that I otherwise wouldn’t have been able to. And in the beautiful country of Jackson Hole, you just cannot beat this experience!

Shepard Humphries was excellent instructor to guide through different guns. My girlfriend and I booked the shooting experience late and had only a couple of hours in the morning before afternoon flight, they fitted us in and made whole thing great. Mr. Humhries was so relaxed, careful and giving you instant feedback as soon as you showed any interest and who of us wouldn’t if we ever would venture to find a shooting range to try all different guns from .22 to sniper riffle to different hand guns and revolvers. He observed differences of me and my girlfriend and made it fun for both of us. Multi gun package was great experience to learn to love different guns and understand their purpose (on my unlimited way) what is difficult as a legal alien living in nyc. The shooting range is great, amazing depth, mountains barreling over and locals coming over to shoot, a great thing to observe and learn. Everything is supplied, snacks, water, protection, but you’ll probably don’t even touch those like me as it is just too exciting.I could ramble on, but I can only highly recommend this experience. My only regret is that my visit was too short.

I have never shot a gun before in my life and while my husband and I were visiting Jackson Hole Wyoming we decided to go to visit Shepard’s shooting range and I’m so glad we did! Both of us had the best time and were so sad when the 3+ hours were up. Shepard was able to balance teaching me how to shoot each gun and hit the targets while challenging my husband who was an experienced shooter. He is not only patient and extremely knowledgeable but hilariously funny:) If you are planning a trip to Wyoming I would highly recommend taking time to visit this shooting range… you will not be disappointed. We were so pumped afterward will are planning to purchase one of the guns we practiced on! Thanks Shepard!!

We are a Chinese couple living in Vancouver. We had some shooting experience in Vancouver, but none of them is as good as this one! We tried many types of guns, raffles, pistols.. Started from the smaller ones, then we tried the powerful ones as well. The instructor Shepherd is awesome! very professional and fun!

There were five of us, all adults, but the experience gap was significant from my wife and daughter who had barely shot at all, to my son, a Marine just back from Afghanistan who saw extensive combat as an infantry machine gunner. Shepard was more than up for the challenge and balanced the need for safety and novice instruction with making it a blast even for an experienced Marine. He and Lynn are the most wonderful couple and manage a first-class operation. We took the multi-gun package and everyone enjoyed the range of weapons fired and the challenge of it all. We had a blast, it was a unique bonding experience as a family, and it created memories to last a lifetime. We could not recommend it more highly!!

This was definitely one of the funnest things I have done. Not only did I improve upon my skills but I had a blast doing so and Mr, Humpries was a gentlemen, very knowledgeable and a lot of fun. If you have the chance, I highly recommend trying it.

On our way back to the hotel after a long hike we planned to shoot for just half an hour….. but Shepard made it in a way we had not expected it to be. It was a great fun. We tried many gun types. After 2 hours of shooting the kids did not want to go back to the hotel although it was a dinner time. Jackson Hole was famous for its parks, now it is famous for its Shooting Experience !!!!

We booked a 4 hour shooting experience at the last minute and the staff could not have been friendlier and more accommodating. We found a printed ad in the local paper and had no idea it even existed. My husband has extensive experience with firearms but I was never comfortable with pistols. Not anymore! Shepard, our instructor, was helpful, friendly, extremely knowledgeable, and seemed to be enjoying himself just as much as we were. For a phenomenal bargain, we got to fire live rounds with several types of pistols and rifles. It was educational but we also thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. I can’t say enough good things about this place. If we are back in the area, I definitely want to do this again!
Pros: Too many to name!!
Cons: It eventually had to end!!!!!

My daughter’s 15th birthday was last week and she wanted to do something she has never done before, go shooting at the range. I booked our time with Jackson Hole Shooting Experience was literally blown away with the knowledge and care taken by Shepard as he instructed my daughter in the safe handling of firearms. The progressive manner in which he teaches (moving from simple rifles to more advanced) is genius and I’ve never seen my daughter learn so fast. After we were finished, by daughter exclaimed that this experience made her life!

Shepard (our guide) offers an excellent experience for first time shooters! We got to shoot a a very wide variety of weapons, each progressively cooler than the next, and our guide offered tips and tricks on how to shoot each and every one. Safety was top priority which was good since there were other people using the range.
We were on the range for about 2 hours or so and there was always something fun to do, and if you are hungry, snacks and beverages were included! By far one of the coolest things in Jackson Hole, Shepard does the best to make you feel welcome and help you no matter the skill. Go check it out!

What a blast. Four hours of non-stop shooting with a variety of guns and rifles. My son & I had a great time. We learned more about guns that afternoon than we would have ever imagined. Shepard is very professional, and a super nice guy. The whole experience from booking a shooting time through our final shots was smooth, problem free, and enjoyable. I’m not easily impressed, but have to admit that this was one of the most fun things I’ve done in a long time. I want to go back to Jackson Hole just for the shooting. If your in the area, don’t miss it. It well worth cost and its something you’ll be talking about for a long time after.

This was a once in a lifetime sort of day – as an Australian we can’t just go to a range and fire guns. Shephard was very helpful, very safety focused yet still didn’t stop us having as much fun as we could. If you are worried about the cost, I can tell you that the experience is worth it. A recommended activity if you are having a rest day off the slopes.

We took the Basic Pistol Course and it was hands down the best experience since moving here 4 years ago. We learned more than we ever thought possible and had a great time the entire day. Not only would we recommend this course but any other course or time you can get with their instructors

With a lot of long rifle experience, my wife and I had never handled a “small arm”…a handgun. We signed up for Shepard’s introductory course and were educated, entertained, challenged and rewarded by his course. Both of us felt like “we want more” and preferably from Shep. His style is engaging, entertaining and, ultimately, very educational. We were able to qualify for a NRA basic level certification…a national level certification (one that would allow us to apply for a concealed weapons permit). His personal perspectives from a couple decades in law enforcement were invaluable. Can’t recommend this course enough! Food provided, as well as a variety of handguns to “try out”. Of course, we learned how to clean them at the end of the day. D&L P.
