Josh Steketee

Like that of many of the other coaches, my love for the outdoors began as a young boy.  Having grown up in Lower Michigan, outdoor opportunities were plentiful.  I feel extremely fortunate to have had so much exposure to so many different outdoor pursuits.  Hunting, fishing, and camping were staple activities as I was growing up.  A deep-rooted passion for all things outdoors was evident to all who knew me.

Even more than my own love of outdoor experiences is my desire to introduce and share those experiences with others.  My own trail to becoming an Instructor with this great company, The Jackson Hole Shooting Experience is anything but conventional.

While in my mid-teens, much before survival was trendy, I attended several primitive survival camps put on by the Famous Tom Brown Jr.  I took the knowledge I gained from this unique experience and yearned for more.   After graduating from High School in the top half of the bottom 50%, I thought a break in my conventional education may be warranted.    The National Outdoor Leadership School seemed a better educational option at the time. The NOLS semester proved successful in inspiring among other things a more clear focus on my immediate future.

Conventional College would be the path for the next several years.  During this time in my life I was guiding White Water Rafting trips in the summer on the Snake River within the Jackson Hole Valley.  In my mid-twenties I also attended a NOLS Educators course and received My Wilderness Emergency Medical credentials.  More college and again back to the  Greater Yellowstone area where I spent some time guiding Dog Sled trips.  Somehow, despite my clear distraction with Jackson Hole, I finished school.  Not only did I finish but I continued my formal education.  In October of 2011 I graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic having earned a Doctorate of Chiropractic Degree.

Although Iowa was a nice place to study, my family and I were planning on going back to Holland Michigan to serve the community of our hometown.  Despite this having been extremely rewarding, the call of the West was again becoming.  In July of 2014 my wife and son and myself set out on an adventure.  Having sold most everything we owned at the time to travel the USA.  From Michigan to the West Coast, South to Florida, Mississippi and Louisiana and many other states in between.

Living Deliberately was our motto.  Motivated by adventure and guided by faith that all thing would work out.  While on the road I had the privilege of again sharing outdoor experiences with people.  Guiding hunting trips during the fall and fly fishing trips in the summer.

Today as I share my journey to our current location.   I am thankful for the opportunity to share this awesome experience with as many as I can. Jackson Hole is a special place that allows for special experiences.  I look forward to sharing my love of the shooting sports with you all.  One thing that has always been clear to me is what a privilege it is to be able to share truly unique experiences with others. I look forward to seeing you on the range!
