As proponents of people carrying the best possible tools to help them protect themselves, it is also important to stress that deadly tools are a LAST RESORT! This is why we here at the Jackson Hole Shooting Experience are dedicated to not only our main business of shooting instruction, but also helping avoid violence, resolve conflicts peacefully and the mastery of verbal de-escalation. I reached out to our friend Terry Brock, and asked for his thoughts about verbal de-escalation. See the below video titled:
Verbal De Escalation Terry Brock with Shepard Humphries
It occurs to me that we are far better off avoiding a problem than solving it with bullets. it occurs to me that we are far better off heeding Terry’s advice to stand down and be the person that detaches from the conflict. Beyond being the moral thing to do, it makes sense that we should make every effort to stop any potentially violent conflict, whether we are right or wrong and whether we started the event or not.
Verbal de-escalation is a great skill to practice and contemplate, it could save your life, your assets and could save you some time behind bars!
