My Experience with The Jackson Hole Shooting Experience!
Since I heard we were going to the range I had been chomping at the bit to see what all the rage was about the Multi-Gun Experience! I had grown up as a hunting enthusiasts’ daughter, and consider myself proficient at shooting, but my only coaches had been a variety of blood relatives whose long-term goals were to out-shoot me if we saw a trophy big game animal that next fall. My coaches with the Jackson Hole Shooting Experience was completely different scenario altogether. He saw where I was comfortable and where I needed to improve and kindly adapted to both!
Shepard started me out on a Henry .22, which is probably one of the guns I am the most familiar with and have shot thousands of rounds through with my own Henry. As I stood there shooting, my coach adjusted my form and had me practice a gentle trigger press. Now, up until this point my trigger press had been anything but soft, and even though my aim was dead on, I found my bullets never went in the direction I was planning on. This little intricacy changed my accuracy more that I could believe!
After I had built up more confidence, we moved on to long range rifles, and I couldn’t believe how far I was shooting and right where I wanted them to be! Shepard really honed in on helping me develop and improve skills that would help me with hunting, because he knew that is what I enjoyed! Of course, anytime is good to shoot guns in Wyoming!
Then it was time for the pistols! I didn’t have a whole lot of experience with pistols, and Shepard picked up on that instantly and really went out of his way to make sure I was comfortable and that I would enjoy each hand gun I handled. He also explained advantages and unique things about each of the guns, so now I feel like I have a better idea of what to look for when I make my pistol purchase.
Probably one of my favorite parts of the experience was a timed shooting! We had to hit 2 targets as fast as we could! I loved it because it added some heat to the experience and he gave me enough shots to see I was improving! Something else that I really loved about this was my coworker, Lauren, who was there with me, did the same competition. And she SMOKED my time! But Shepard said nothing but encouraging things to both of us, and we both felt that we were weren’t being compared to each other, but both improving our own skills.
By the time we got to the semi and automatic guns, I felt confident enough with my shooting skills and techniques that I found it hard to miss! Of course, it is hard to miss anything in front of you when you’re shooting a HK MP-5. I was floored by the number of guns that we were going through and when my coach asked me to choose, I found it hard to make decision because there was sooooo many guns to choose from to shoot guns in Wyoming!
All the guns in the world could not hold a candle to the Dessert Menu!!! The finale! The big Kahuna! The grand prize was none other than The Bushmaster BA- 50! I had dreamed of shooting this gun since I saw it on the hunting channel when I was young, and let me tell you it did not disappoint! Years of anticipation, an almost heart stopping reverb, and one massive piece of lead flying through the air at astronomical speeds was indeed icing on the cake!
I couldn’t have been happier with the Experience I had being out on the range! I was grinning from ear to ear and I really learned some techniques and some things about myself that I enjoyed. I would hands down recommend this Experience, and my coaches, Shepard and Thomas, to anyone who has a desire to have a BLAST and wants to shoot guns in Wyoming, and have a priceless Experience.
