Shepard Humphries
Here at Jackson Hole Shooting Experience, we have some incredible people working as our coaches. We want you to get to know each one! Today, meet the Jackson Hole Shooting Experience Experts: Shepard Humphries.
Shepard grew up in Tennessee in a rural Mennonite community for many years riding his horse to school. At age 16, Shepard and his mother moved out West to seek their fortune. They were unsure where they were going to land but eventually found Jackson Hole. Shepard and his mother fell in love with Jackson and they began their new lives here.
Shepard first used firearms in his early teen years. He could be found plinking with a .22 rifle in the back hills. Years later, he got into law enforcement and performed regular qualifications there. Through hard work, Shepard ended up on the SWAT Team. He was eventually promoted from Entry Team to the Sniper Team. By the time Shepard retired from the force in 2005, he was the Sniper Team Leader. At this point in his life, Shepard enjoyed guns but they weren’t really a passion until 2010 when he started the Jackson Hole Shooting Experience. The idea for the business came when Shepard took a friend from Chicago out to shoot. His friend said, “Shepard, you ought to start a business that teaches city-slickers like me how to shoot!” So, that is exactly what Shepard did!
The Jackson Hole Shooting Experience began as 4 guns in a white bucket and a Mexican blanket on the ground at a friend’s ranch. After two seasons of testing the concept, Shepard’s wife Lynn, the real business genius in the relationship, shut down her commodities trading business to lead the Shooting Experience business. This business became the first of it’s kind, making Shepard a pioneer in the luxury entertainment shooting industry. He is proud of the many wonderful businesses around the US that are using the JHSE model in their “shooting experiences.”
Shepard’s favorite firearms to shoot for a long time were pistols but his passion now is long range rifles. This new found love caused him to build the Nomad Rifleman Experience. Shepard created the term “Nomad Rifleman” and he encourages and assists competitors and other shooting experiences nationwide as they develop new ideas and variations. Shepard didn’t trademark “Nomad Rifleman” because he wants to “encourage young shooting instructors to enter the industry, learn from the experienced old goats and then surpass us in skill and quality of offerings!”
Whenever he finds free time, Shepard is an avid reader! He enjoys philosophy, macro economics and business development books. In 2020 he released Harsh Advice for the Unemployed Guy. Shepard also loves spending time with his wife and his dog, Remington.
Most of all though, Shepard is an entrepreneur. Shepard came from an extremely poor family and community and wanted financial security as he got older. Shepard is creating this through his hard work designing the Jackson Hole Shooting Experience. As a small business owner, he definitely works a lot but he loves every minute of it. Shepard is looking to make the luxury entertainment shooting industry more exquisite through taking his high-end experiences up a couple of notches. With his natural entrepreneurship skills, I have no doubt Shepard will create experiences of epic proportions as Jackson Hole Shooting Experience continues to thrive.
We are so glad Shepard created this business so that we can all have so much fun helping him run it. Shepard is a one of a kind guy and is a lot of fun to have as a Coach during your shooting experience. If you want to learn even more about Shepard, call and book an experience with us today! He would LOVE to meet you!
