The Jackson Hole Shooting Experience is excited to visit West Texas, which we understand makes our home state of Wyoming look like a densely populated area! We have teamed with a former awesome client & friend, Sandy Stewart. She has secured a shooting location and her other half is preparing our targets. A HUGE thanks to them for making this training experience happen!
We will train all day each day, so please bring plenty of water, lunch, snacks and dress for the weather. As it turns out, it might be sunny, so perhaps a hat would be wise? You may register for only one day, for two or for all three.
March 31 (Friday) we meet at the ranch at 9am. Shepard & his assistant will have targets ready. We will spend 3 hours shooting pistols, working on fundamentals and basic skills from a “train the trainer” perspective. We will break for lunch, then resume until 5pm shooting with both pistols and carbines. Each shooter should bring 400+ rounds of pistol ammunition and 200+ rounds of carbine ammunition. This class is perfect for shooting instructors seeking ongoing training in instructional methods and philosophies. (If any attendee does not have a pistol and/or carbine, contact us by March 20th and we can provide one.) I suggest having more ammo than mentioned in case we choose to shoot more! Class size limited to 6 people. $295
I am offering this West Texas firearms training class because fewer than 1% of “shooting instructors” are “excellent” in terms of instruction and customer care. I want our industry to improve. My years of instruction and over 10,000 students have taught me a few things I enjoy passing on. This class is for anyone interested in introducing others to shooting or helping them shoot better. This class is also great for a shooter that wants to take their shooting skills to the next level. As will all of our classes, we constantly monitor each student and morph the training to meet their specific needs.
Saturday morning April 1st, we will have a 4-hour community Introduction to Pistol Shooting session from 8am to noon. The graduates of day one will be assistant coaches in addition to Shepard and the other JHSE coach. Class size limited to 10 people. Each shooter will need 200 rounds of ammunition and 300+ would be even better. $95/person
Sandy & Shepard believe that humans ought to have the right to keep themselves safe against initiated violence. Few rugged individualists here in the West care to admit it out loud, however most of us realize we have much to learn about pistol shooting. This class is perfect for novices or those that have not practiced for a while, to get back into shooting. Each student will be coached at a pace that is perfect for them, some faster and some slower. By the end of the morning, we will all have greatly improved our skills, wherever our starting point began.
Saturday afternoon! OK, so we know you will want more! For those of you that want to stay and keep shooting and getting better after the clock strikes noon, toss a $50 in the bucket and lets keep right on going until 4pm or until we run out of ammo! 🙂 No need to pre-register for this second half of the day.
Sunday morning April 2nd we will meet at 9am for some long range rifle fun. We will do a full day of shooting, and unless winds are ridiculous, I suspect most of us will get hits beyond 1,000 yards. Please email shepard@ this website, if you are not 100% certain that your scope, scope rings, scope mount etc are all ready, I am happy to help you prepare ahead of time. I am always sad for students that discover at 11pm the night before class that their new scope is a 30mm tube but their rings are only 1″ and have a different mounting system. This is all confusing stuff, nothing to be embarrassed about, let me know what what you have and we will work out a perfect solution! I will bring a Ruger Precision Rifle for people to try out, you just pay for the ammo. $395/person
Whether you are simply hoping to hone your deer skills at 300 yards, are curious about stretching your shots out to 1,000 yards or would like more trigger time and direction on your rifle, this class will be a fun one. Be certain to be in contact to clarify your hopes and needs.
Ammo count?
Basically, we will be doing a bunch of drills. Bring as much as you can comfortably afford. I have set lower ammo counts as a bare minimum because I want as many people to come as possible! If you bring double or triple the amount I suggest, it wouldn’t hurt. 🙂
Training philosophy
Our goal is to help you shoot better, NOT to impress you with how tough or special are hard-core WE are. We do not use a pre-set curriculum because a “one-size-fits-all” plan is not as effective as our unique style. We plan for you to vastly improve your knowledge and skills while laughing, strengthening friendships with other students and generally having an incredible time!
Facilities
We will be at a beautiful ranch near Marfa, and will be outside in the sun. Bring “that which will keep you comfortable.” For Day 3, we will be shooting prone, so it you want to bring a fancy shooting mat, that would be wise. Just as wise (and $60 less) would be an old blanket. 🙂
