Some say it’s just like therapy.
Come to Jackson and spend some relaxing time floating downstream and throwing your line out, let’s see what you can catch! Fly fishing in the Tetons and Jackson Hole area is a fun way to spend your day, and what beautiful views!
We are fortunate to be a world-class fishing destination … and the mountains in the background? Not bad.
I spoke with our coach Josh Steketee, who is also a fly-fishing guide with Westbank Anglers, located in Wilson, Wyoming. He suggested that the best time of year to get out on the river in Jackson Hole is between the end of July and early August. If you are looking for sport and trophy fishing, he says the late spring and early fall are truly the best to get out, for when the tourists are gone, the fish come out even more due to the quiet.
Guide services offer multiple packages, based on group size, solo events the type of fishing preferred, various Wyoming and Idaho waterways including the Snake River, Fremont Lake, the Green River and more.
Westbank Anglers is one of the the few local companies to offer tours into the scenic Grand Teton National Park! The views on these trips are incomparable!
We asked Josh what his favorite part of being a fly-fishing guide is, and he said “It is really a cool privilege to be that person who gets to share their experience with them, and I go out of my way to make every opportunity unique, whether it is the anglers first time or 100th time”. Josh said that while there are hundreds of guides in the area, a few stand out. A handful of Jackson guides are booked for years in advance, with HNWI‘s that live in Jackson Hole part-time, in essence, keeping their favorite guide on retainer.
There are many fishing opportunities in the Yellowstone area, including many mountain lakes and streams. If you have your own gear and do not want a guide, head out on your own and have a blast … errr ‘cast.”
Josh said that most Jackson Hole fly fishing guide and shops are very helpful, and that at least at Westbank Anglers, even if the called does not want to book a trip that day, the staff is happy to help with advice. Check out Trip Advisor for the many options available in Jackson Hole.
