This is the second class I’ve taken from Shephard and his “Jackson Hole Shooting Experience.” Once again, I learned so much! He is such an excellent teacher. He differentiates for all levels. His style is motivating, highly interesting, and entertaining. It’s always an eclectic group of people who end up coming together to shoot and root for each other. It was freezing cold today at the Gun Club, but nobody complained! We had a great day! I highly recommend Shepard’s classes. You will not be disappointed!!

My experience was above and beyond what I expected. Shephard has designed a fun and safe shooting program for all levels. I arrived hoping to gain more confidence shooting pistols and walked away with a big grin and the confidence boost I was looking for. Most of all I enjoyed the defensive tactics and shooting games. Shepard is a wonderful instructor who obviously loves his job. I strongly recommend this program to all, you will not be disappointed.

I signed up the for the multi-gun course… Shepherd met every expectation plus some… I wanted to try a multitude of guns to feel them out and luckily this offered. Shepherd is very knowledgeable about all the weapons he instructs with. He preaches good technique and safety. The course was worth the money. You get what you pay for and I paid for the best and I got the best. Shepherd is a great teacher… very patient and his enthusiasm and love for what he does shows… I would highly recommend him and his program to anyone who want to learn how to properly shoot.

The best shooting range in Jackson. The staff is super nice, professional, and knowledgeable. It’s a very safe environment. Safety is definitely the #1 concern. They offer a wide range of guns, from 22 caliber rifles to an M-16. Great range for all skill levels. If you want to shoot, this is the place.

Took my nephews, 14 and 16, to the shooting experience, my 77 year old father too. Shepard is a former police officer who makes the 4 hour experience a friendly, exciting and safe afternoon of incredible fun. We shot 20+ guns thru the afternoon and my nephews regard it as the highlight of their trip to the West. Not sure Old Faithful was able to compete.
I was wondering if 4 hours might be too much; but with someone as engaging and fun as Shepard leading the event, the time moved right along and we even went over time some. The kids said they could shoot everyday! Do this!

My husband and I recently took a private lesson with Shepard Humphries of the Jackson Hole Shooting Experience. I was a bit nervous at first, but Shepard is a real pro at putting one at ease, while stressing all of the safety issues of gun handling. We customized our lesson to some extent (we have had some experience with guns but long ago) and Shepard adapted our lesson perfectly. He instructs a number of different classes as well as designing different gun experiences for people with varying backgrounds in guns. All in all, it was a perfect blend of education and fun.

Our three teenage/college boys wanted a real shooting experience on our vacation to Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons, and this was right on target. Although we had very little shooting experience, Shepherd made us feel comfortable and safe learning about various firearms and how to aim and shoot properly. He set up different targets so we could enjoy success regardless of our ability. He also shared our enthusiasm and went out of his way to set up a day and time convenient for us. Our boys said it was one of their favorite things they did on our vacation. A beautiful setting just south of Jackson, Wyoming.

Shepard and Lynn are amazing! My three friends and I went shooting this afternoon and it was the best time. Two of us didn’t have any experience… The other two had shot a bunch of times… But it didn’t matter. Shepard made it fun for everyone. We got to shoot a variety of guns including rifles and pistols. My brother shot a target 300 yards away with a sniper rifle!! He was pumped!! I would recommend this experience for anyone visiting Jackson!

Shepard puts on a top notch program. We had the pleasure to learn from Shepard and not only teaches but has you help teach making the things you learn stick. We had the opportunity to shoot both pistols and rifles giving us a great variety. We had a couple shooters in our group that had never shot pistols before and they both were hitting targets! Shepard puts on a safe, informational program but most of all we all had a great time! I highly recommend his classes!

Our complete novice family of four went to see Shepard for a 2 hour shooting experience. Our boys are 10 and 12 yrs old.
We didn’t expect that our younger son would be able to shoot most of the guns but Shepard took us through all the different types of guns and let him decide with gentle guidance what he would be able to do. The first thing Shepard taught us was gun safety and the rules of the range. He did it in a way that was fun and non-intimidating. This made us as parents feel very comfortable and was a valuable lesson for the boys on the responsibilities that go with guns.
Shepard was incredibly patient and calm and this made all the difference.
We would thoroughly recommend this to anyone who has an interest in learning more about guns in a safe and responsible way.
Shepard is a great teacher and we will definitely visit him again the next time we are in Jackson Hole

This was a fantastic experience all around. I went shooting with my girlfriend and her family, and it was alot of fun. I’ve shot guns alot before but nobody else in my group had, and Shepard was a great teacher. Very enthusiastic and knowledgeable, he even gave me extra tips because I’m going into law enforcement. He also had a great variety of guns; everything from 22 caliber to the bigger stuff. I would absolutely recommend this for anybody who wants to have some fun. Whether you’re a veteran shooter or a novice it doesn’t matter, you’ll have fun either way.

If you’re anywhere in the vicinity of Jackson Hole, the Jackson Hole Shooting Experience is the place to go. Shepard (Shepard@ShootinJH.com) was our instructor. He taught us East coast city girls (who have basically never held anything other than water guns) how to accurately shoot revolvers and rifles. Our success is sure evidence of his awesome instruction. Shepard is patient, safety conscious, skilled and generous with his time. We learned how to hold the guns, load them, shoot with accuracy, and safety on the shooting range. ShootinJH can also be great fun for the more advanced marksman. Shepard had competitions going based on both speed and accuracy. Our experience was informative, definitely different from our usual activities and most of all, lots and lots of fun. Great activity for any age and any skill level.

We met with Shepherd at 8:00 on Tuesday, July 19th. He was there to greet us and we got started immediately with safety and learning about all the different guns. We were the only ones on the range at the time and it was a beautiful and calm day. He is one of the nicest, most experienced instructor you could ever hope to have. Made everything interesting and fun and SAFE. He was totally dedicated to our wishes and needs and didn’t walk away once during the 4 hour lesson/shooting session. Truly an extremely professional and exciting experience for both my husband and 13-year old son. I honestly can’t give a high enough rating to Shepherd and the riffle range that he runs. With unlimited shooting and private instruction, games, contests, it could not have been better.

I found the Jackson Hole Shooting Experience through the Chamber of Commerce. We shot trap for 8 rounds. They were extremely friendly, and allowed us to just pick up and shoot as we are experienced shooters. It was a lot of great fun and they have a wide range of guns you can shoot at the range. The scenic range is very cool especially when you see wildlife on the range. They catered to us and our experience and allowed us to have a ton of fun. Definitely will go back and will be bringing corporate events there as well.

Firstly (and most importantly), Shepard is one of the nicest and most patient people I’ve ever met – which is key when dealing with beginners. He eagerly and clearly showed us how to use each gun – from rifles, to pistols, to sniper rifles. By the end of the day, my Dad (who has never shot a gun before) was able to hit a 200 yard target with a sniper rifle. Likewise, my brother – equally as inexperienced – enjoyed shooting targets using lighter guns for his age. In short, Shepard is the perfect guide for beginners – even those who have never shot before – to experienced shooters looking for a great “shooting experience.” His easygoing attitude and endless knowledge about guns explains his 5 Star reputation. I can’t wait for our next lesson!

I took the Basic Pistol course with my dad on Father’s Day and had a blast! The instructor, Shepard H., was a great teacher. He made the class fun, very informative, and memorable. Shepard’s background makes him a very qualified and knowledgeable teacher. In addition to the making the classroom portion of the class fun, Shepard made the time on the range fly by! With a large selection of handguns to try and great tips for aiming, the hands-on time was very well-spent. Safety is a priority in this class and Shepard does a fantastic job instilling safe gun handling skills in all students.
I also really appreciated the cleaning portion of this course, as I had shot before but had never actually cleaned a gun. Allowing the time and instruction on how to properly field strip and clean a pistol was very valuable to me.
I would definitely be game for another JH Shooting Experience anytime!

None of us had any experience with shooting before and Shepard put us all at ease, was very helpful and professional and made the whole experience fun and interesting by incorporating a little history behind the various weapons. I highly recommend the experience.

Shepard made time for a beginners instruction for our family on the 4th of July. Most of us had never fired a weapon before, so Shepard’s warm and helpful guidance made the experience much less intimidating than we thought it might be. He made it fun! His relaxed attitude and natural knack for teaching made grasping the safety and handling of each type of gun easier to learn. He had a ‘no pressure’ approach to teaching allowed my wife who had never held a gun before to choose which guns she was comfortable shooting without feeling obligated or nervous to try something new. Shepard was extremely well prepared with a wide variety of guns for those who wanted to try it all. Not only did he provide all of the necessary safety equipment but he also came prepared with drinks and snacks to make the whole experience very easy and enjoyable.

Spent a day with Shepard H learning basics of pistol use. He’s a super instructor, very focused on your interests and assures that you have an excellent experience that is both fun and educational. He kept the classroom portion of the course entertaining, well-pace and interesting with a lot of stories, demonstrations and class involvement.
When we moved to the range the safety practices and training were comprehensive and extremely thorough. The range itself is a very nice one set in the beautiful surroundings of Jackson Hole. Shepard worked very hard to assure that everyone gained a good understanding of the material and was able to experience the differences in firing numerous types of pistols, All in all a top quality experience with a superb instructor.
Understand that he offers a variety of shooting activities and classes ( e.g. skeet shooting,…) and we intend to visit again. .

I thoroughly enjoyed an NRA Basic Pistol class with Shepard yesterday and can’t say enough about the instructor or the course. It was as welcome an introduction to the shooting sports as I could have asked for. The sign up and registration is easy and efficient and the confirmation was a nice touch. Once there (and the JH Gun Club is a very nice shooting range) there was a wonderful in-class course on all the aspects of pistols – safety, use, care and other topics. There was an easy to appreciate powerpoint presentation interspersed with lots of practical information and dummy pistols to use for training purposes. Despite a very large array of functional pistols on hand for demonstration, it was evident (and repeatedly made evident) that they were all unloaded and harmless in the classroom. Having the selection available made the hands on aspect all the better, and the teaching all the more valuable for it. In the latter part of the day we were all taken to the range for live fire instruction and were all made to feel comfortable with the use and safety of pistols. Evaluating fellow students was a useful tool both to refresh what we’d learned as well as gain valuable perspective that only an onlooker would have. Shepard made a number of caliber pistols available to the students to try, as well as a variety of makes and models of each caliber as well. For someone thinking about purchasing a pistol this was perhaps the most valuable portion of the course, and it was a real treat to try all the different options for comfort, ‘feel’ and accuracy. Once finished on the range we all had a hand at cleaning our handgun, and having someone walk me through the process made me feel so much more confident in cleaning my own on a regular basis.
While the course work and range time were valuable, what really set the course apart were Shepard’s skills and passion. He’s a natural born teacher, speaker and entertainer and his fascination for the shooting sports shines through and makes the course so much more than the sum of it’s parts. He went above and beyond at every turn. I’ll be taking more classes as soon as I have the chance.

We are not gun shooters and do not have any gun at home so this is the only chance we could try to shoot.
It turns out to be great fun for both myself and my teen son. We spent four hours shooting away at this shooting rang south of Jackson without realizing how cold it was and what time it was. Needless to say, we came back to the hotel completely sored in the arms, legs and neck from long hour of shooting stance and pulling of the gun slides.
We went for half a day session with hand guns only and unlimited shooting. The instructor gave us a safety briefing before going into the mechanics of hand gun. After all those we hit the shooting range and got to shoot various kind of guns and caliber ranging from revolvers to semi-auto, and 0.22 to 9mm to 0.45.
The instruction is knowledgeable, extremely friendly, super courteous and very safe with new shooters like us.
Believe me, this is much better than going rafting, or shopping for art work around town.

In the summer of 2009, I spent several hours with Shepard shooting a variety of guns, including my father’s old shotguns, .22 target pistols and rifles, and several more power rifles and pistols including my then new Kimber 1911 .45 caliber semi-automatic pistol. Shepard’s level of knowledge in all aspects of these weapons was excellent. He taught the basics of safety, handling, and operation of each of the weapons. Patience is a word that comes to mind. On several occasions, I left my finger on the trigger when I wasn’t ready to fire – he noticed it every time and gently reminded me of that error until I feel comfortable in not putting my finger on the trigger until I was ready to shoot. By the end of the day, I felt comfortable with all of the guns, my proficiency at hitting the target had improved noticeably, and I had a great time to boot!

My son, Ian (12 years old,) had a great time on Sunday while attending the day-long NRA Basic Pistol course conducted by Shep. He was excited about learning safety techniques and especially excited to be able to shoot several guns.
When I arrived to pick up Ian, Shep asked him to get ear and eye protection for me so I could be on the gun range. Shep asked if I wanted to shoot a Sig Sauer pistol- I’d never fired a pistol before but I learned what to do and hit 100% of my targets. That was fun!
I think we likely have a new hobby.
